Host and connect to a local Crowd Control Minecraft Server.

The following steps are for streamers who are hosting a server.

  1. Download and install the Crowd Control PC app.
  2. In the Game Selection tab, select Minecraft (Paper Server) (PC) .
  3. Click One Click Server Setup to automatically setup a server. This may take several minutes to complete.
  4. Once done, click Launch Server to start the Minecraft server. If you were not already prompted to do so during setup, you may need to set a temporary password to be able to connect to the server. This can be done by typing password <insert password here> in the pop-up server console window. A default password “crowdcontrol” is already set.
  5. Once the Minecraft server has started, click Start in the Crowd Control app to connect to the server.
    • When prompted for “Host:” just put localhost and use the default password of crowdcontrol or whatever you may have set above.
  6. At this point you can now join the local Minecraft server with your game. Just select Multiplayer from the title screen and add the server with the IP/Host localhost, and no password.
  7. Upon joining the Minecraft server, run the command /account link <your twitch/crowdcontrol username> to ensure you receive effects that viewers purchase for you.
  8. If you want others to connect to your local server, make sure you have a port foward rule in your home router for port 58431 to your local machine. You will want to give other players your home IP address, like the one found at what is my ip - Google Search

As always, test effects before going live using the “Live Extension” button in the Crowd control Desktop app!

Connecting to an external Crowd Control Minecraft Server.

The following steps are for streamers who are connecting to another individual’s server.

  1. Download and install the Crowd Control PC app.
  2. In the Game Selection tab, select Minecraft (Paper Server) (PC) .
  3. Click Start . A pop-up menu will appear prompting you for information that you should have received from your server host.
    • In the host field, you should enter an IP address or a website URL given by the server administrator. This will usually be the same as the IP address that you connect to in Minecraft.
    • In the password field, you must enter a secret passphrase provided to you by the server host. The default is “crowdcontrol”.
  4. Upon joining the Minecraft server, run the command /account link <your twitch username> to ensure you receive effects that viewers purchase for you. Your username should be all lowercase.

As always, test effects before going live using the “Live Extension” button in the Crowd control Desktop app!

Notes

  • If you do not run the “/account link” command, effects will not reach you and will be queued and eventually refunded.

  • You can have all players account link as the same twitch user if you want viewers on one channel to affect all users.
  • You can enable global mode, so all effects sent to the players on the server affect everyone: Edit the config.yml at Documents\CrowdControl\Minecraft-Server\Plugins\CrowdControl and add global: true at the end of the file, save and restart the server.
  • To setup a server manually or on a dedicated server, head over to the main github for the mod https://github.com/qixils/minecraft-crowdcontrol
  • Find the latest version of the mod here. To update, replace the CrowdControl.jar in your servers plugins folder.
  • Check out our blog post on a super simple way to setup an externally host Minecraft Server!
